• Dates: June 22 - July 10 Grade Level: Incoming 9th-12th Prerequisite: None UC/CSU Subject Area: F RBUSD Graduation Credit Category: Visual and Performing Arts/Foreign Language (VPFL)   This credit-based class is an onlineself-pacedindependent study course in partnership with EdOptions Academy (formerly Apex Virtual Learning), a WASC-accredited online school. RUHS Teachers of Record monitor student progress, grade some of the tests/assignments, unlock new course sessions, and are available for consultation during their designated office hours. Length: One semester (5 credits)
    • Session A only covers the first semester. Session B only covers the second semester. Students need to take both SESSION A and SESSION B in the same summer to earn a full year of credit for this class (10 credits).
    • Students will have 3 weeks to complete Session A. Session A compacts an entire semester into 3 weeks, and it takes students, on average, 6-7 hours per day, 5 days a week, to complete the work before the proctored exam. Students must take the final exam before they can move to Session B.
    • When a student completes a section of the course, the teacher will unlock the next section for the student to proceed. This ensures that students follow the correct pathway through the materials. While you are welcome to email the teacher at any time, responses and/or unlocking new sections should only be expected during office hours. Any response outside those hours is a courtesy, but not guaranteed.

    • Music Appreciation is a streamlined course that introduces students to the history, theory, and genres of music, from the most primitive surviving examples, through the classical, and to the most contemporary in the world at large. The first semester covers primitive musical forms, classical music, and American jazz. The second semester presents the rich modern traditions, including gospel, folk, soul, blues, Latin rhythms, rock and roll, and hip-hop. The course explores the interface of music and social movements, examining how the emergent global society and the Internet are bringing musical forms together in new ways from all around the world.
